Gin Volcanic. Gin Volcanic is a gin from northern Spain in the Pyranees area. And it is a hell of a gin.The bottle is beautiful and distinctive and the gin is big, bold and has lots going on. To start with, there is minute attention to detail in this gin and unique elements in its production.The base spirit is distilled from green walnuts which are picked green and kept in fine alcohol for a year before the process even starts. They then add volcanic stones which are collected in the region and painstakingly sterilized, transfering their mineral nature and the volcanic identity to the distillate. The botanicals used are triple macerated, giving every one a chance to bring its identity fully to the mix. And its a hell of a list. Roots, seeds and aromatic floral plants, including lemon verbena, mint, sage, rosemary, cinnamon, cumin, chamomile, juniper berries, St John’s wort, nutmeg, star anise are all here.The third maceration turns all these elements into a massively individual London Dry styled gin with the addition of familiar juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, dried bitter orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, angelica and others. The aromas of this gin are huge. Floral, citrus, herby, aniseed notes are all here. It´s a big bouquet alright. In the mouth, it is a big and bold gin. It has a creamy full body, with juniper and citrus and ginger notes very obvious, but alot of floral undertones that balance and there is a understated sweetness that makes the overall gin and very easy drinking one. Has to be tasted to be appreciated.
