Coppa Cosmopolitan Cocktail. A classic cocktail which blends triple sec with cranberry juice, lime juice and premium vodka. The Cosmopolitan is one of those cocktails that has had various incarnations through the ages. Through this drink’s origin is often-disputed the most recognized creation of the Cosmo is credited to Toby Cecchini, of The Odeon in Manhattan in 1987. He put a put a fresh spin on the known versions and the modern day Cosmo was born. But, of course, it wasn’t until the airing of ‘Sex and the city’ that the Cosmopolitan really launched into pop culture icon status. In the late nineties, it topped the lists of bars across the country and became synonymous with working women, the budding cocktail revolution, and men ordering the cocktail in rocks glasses because they didn’t want to seem too girly.

Coppa Mai Tai Cocktail. The Mai Tai is a delicious Tiki cocktail with a special name from the Tahitian. The story goes that Vic Trader (the inventor of many tiki cocktails) first made this cocktail for friends from Tahiti. They replied “Mai Tai” to the cocktail what is Tahitian for “fantastic” or “irresistible”. Tiki cocktails are tropical fruit cocktails with rum and colorful side dishes.

Coppa Tequila Sunrise Cocktail. One of the all-time classic cocktails. A delicious combination of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup. The drink earned a reputation as a kitschy, sweet ‘disco drink’ in seventies, but it has reinvented itself for the modern era. Although the cocktail was invented in Tijuana, the cocktail became popular courtesy of The Rolling Stones. After visiting a bar in Sausalito, Mick Jagger adopted the name and made it the unofficial drink for the band’s famously debaucherous 1972 tour.

Coppa White Russian Cocktail. The White Russian cocktail combining vodka, coffee and cream and serving it on the rocks creates a delicious alternative to adult milkshakes. The White Russian came about in the ’60s when someone added a bit of cream to the Black Russian. It would be a great story to say that the White Russian’s star rose from that point on, but unfortunately that would not be true. The truth is the White Russian suffered a bit from a stodgy, antiquated reputation until the 1998 movie “The Big Lebowski” came along and breathed new life into the cocktail with Jeff Bridges’ character, The Dude, sipping it exclusively and somewhat constantly.

Coppa Strawberry Daquiri Cocktail. A cocktail made with white rum, lime juice, strawberry juice and sugar. The classic Daiquiri takes its name from the place it was invented, the mining town Daiquiri on the south-eastern tip of Cuba. During the time of the Spanish-American War an American mining engineer by the name of Jennings Cox created the drink to protect his workers from yellow fever. To give it something extra, strawberry has been added to the classic Daiquiri beginning of the nineties. The variant is well-liked in all of the world nowadays.

It takes too much time to make, but not with this variant. Some say the drink was originally Cuban and other say it was invented upon board a sailor named Francis Drake. One thing is sure, this cocktail is one of the most popular cocktails in world for more than a century.

Coppa Negroni Cocktail. Refreshingly bitter, the Negroni is said to have been invented in Florence by a dauntless Italian count who demanded that the bartender replace the club soda in his Americano with gin. It was a substitution that launched a thousand riffs. In its hundred-year history, few cocktails have encouraged more frenzied experimentation than the beloved Negroni.

Coppa Passion Fruit Martini Cocktail. Crowd-pleasing combination of vodka, lime juice, vanilla and passion fruit, created by bartender Douglas Ankrah at London’s Townhouse bar in the early 2000s and since adopted by bars the world over, certainly is a star.

Coppa Pina Colada Cocktail. A cocktail based on white rum, coconut oil and the taste of pineapple juice. The name from the cocktail is directly translated from Spanish as ‘strained pineapple’. One of the world’s most favourite cocktails, was born in Puerto Rico, but the identity of the bartender who first mixed up the iconic rum-based cocktail remains a point of contention. However, the development of the modern-day beach cocktail would not have been possible until the 1954 invention of a key ingredient, a pre-made cream of coconut. In 1978 the Piña colada was declared the national drink of Puerto Rico, and the next year it was cemented into pop culture with tis iconic chorus: “If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain”.

Coppa Sex on the Beach Cocktail. One of the most popular and widely known cocktails. Made of vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. The history of the Sex on the Beach cocktail is a little hazy but the most cited story dates back to 1987 when a company began selling peach schnapps. The company came up with a contest that they would pay the bar who sold the most peach schnapps 1000 dollars and the bartender who was responsible for the most sales 100 dollars. A bartender called Ted Pizio mixed vodka, peach schnapps, pineapple and cranberry juice and the drink started to become very popular. And the bartender named the popular cocktail Sex on the Beach because he assumed ‘sex’ and ‘the beach’ were two main reasons why spring breakers visited the state Florida.

Coppa Amaretto Sour Cocktail. Nobody knows exactly who invented the first recipe for an Amaretto Sour. It was somewhere in the US, and sometime in the 1970s, that Italian liquors became more popular in America. Back then it was common in bars to have a sour mixture available. When a customer asked for a whiskey sour that was fashionable at the time, the bartender simply used the whiskey and blend. Somewhere a bartender was clearly wondering what it would taste like if you also added amaretto or replaced whiskey with amaretto, and so the cocktail was born.

Coppa Espresso Martini Cocktail. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up post-dinner, the Espresso Martini is here to jolt you awake with its boozy magical powers. The cold coffee-flavored cocktail mixes vodka with espresso coffee, coffee liqueur and simple syrup. Garnish with a few coffee beans, and it’s picture perfect. British bartender Dick Bradsell invented this now-classic drink, a.k.a. the Vodka Espresso, at Fred’s Club in London in the late ’80s. Legend has it that Kate Moss asked for a drink that would “wake me up and then fuck me up” at the same time, and the Espresso Martini was the result.

Coppa Long Island Iced Tea Cocktail. Cooling combination of tequila, triple sec, vodka and rum with a hint of lime and a splash of cola. Everyone who’s woken up with an achy head and upset stomach can agree that this cocktails is as dangerous as delicious. The cola gives the cocktail the colour of ice tea and the triple sec gives the cocktail the sweetness of it. The innocent-looking cocktail was invented by Robert Butt in a cocktail creating contest on Long Island. By the mid-seventies every bar on Long Island was serving up this cocktail, and by the eighties it was known the world over.

Coppa Whiskey Sour Cocktail. The Whiskey Sour is one of the most famous classic cocktails of all time, withstanding the effects of prohitbition, which took many other classics into relative obscurity. The combination of whiskey, sweet and sour makes for a timeless taste, that is sure to please almost anyone. Whiskey Sour officially dates back to the 1860s, but sailors in the British Navy had been drinking something very similar long before that. On long sea journeys, water was not always dependable, so to combat that, spirits were often used. Scurvy, too, was another danger on these journeys, so lemons and limes were consumed to help prevent the disease (incidentally, this is also one of the reasons why British folk are called ‘Limeys’). Finally, sugar and water were added for taste. At this point, the drink is probably starting to sound familiar.
